Healthy Selfie Geopark trail – Torquay
Torquay pier to pier
This Healthy Selfie Geopark Journey is an accessible trail around Torquay’s seafront, which aims to encourage people to step into the fresh air and discover some extraordinary facts along the way. The routes are wide with flat walkways and avoid areas that tend to get overly busy or loud.
Leaflets can be picked up from the English Riviera Visitor Information Centre, Vaughan Parade, Torquay TQ2 5JG. Alternatively, download the trails from this here: https://healthy-selfie.co.uk/walks/#geopark-journeys
We point out parking and public transport options, toilets and Changing Places toilets (where available).
The highlights of this route include:
- D-Day memorial at Beacon Quay which marks the embarkation point used by the US Army, where 21,000 soldiers departed for Utah beach on 5th June 1944
- Princess Gardens which were opened by Princess Louise, the daughter of Queen Victoria, with its eye-catching fountain – a sister fountain stands outside The Raffles hotel in Singapore
- Princess Pier where Agatha Christie famously enjoyed roller skating with her friends
- Royal Terrace Gardens (known locally as Rock Walk) at night you will be able to enjoy a lighting scheme which projects images of birds, seaweed and corals onto the walkways.
